Many Hollywood stars have struggled with eating disorders, among other health issues, and thus can exist as both positive and negative icons for girls. However, many of these stars have used their recoveries to inspire other girls dealing with eating disorders to get help and look for healthy answers. Specifically, Disney Channel star turned pop singer Demi Lovato checked into rehab for bulimia, anorexia and depression in 2010, something that was extensively covered in the media. After her recovery, Lovato used the media coverage that her story had gotten to develop campaigns like "Love is Louder Than the Pressure to be Perfect", and her partnership with the Jed Foundation. Now, she is a spokesperson for adolescent health and happiness, inspiring girls around the world to seek help when they are suffering. This is one example of how the media can be used to disseminate positive messages to girls around the world. It is movements like this that we can use to counter the large numbers of unhealthy media messages that get sent to girls everyday.
